Constructions on the new M-12 highway protected from corrosion by VMP coatings

On December 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin opened the new 810-kilometer Moscow-Nizhny Novgorod-Kazan high-speed highway.  Traveling from the Russian capital to the largest city of Tatarstan will take six and a half hours, which is almost twice as fast as before.

The M-12 Vostok highway is a part of the international route from Europe to Western China running through the Moscow Oblast, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Vladimir Oblast, Chuvash Republic, and Tatarstan. Completed in record-breaking time, the project involved 30,000 employees and 8,000 pieces of equipment.  It took less than three years from the start to the commissioning.

Traffic along the M-12 highway is supposed to be launched as early as in 2024, first to Yekaterinburg, and then to Tyumen. Later, the highway is planned to be extended to Vladivostok, connecting with Kazakhstan, Mongolia, and China.

More than 300 artificial constructions were built along the route, including bridges, underbridges, ramps, retaining walls, and others. Many of them are protected from corrosion by the paint materials manufactured by VMP Research and Production Holding.

Anticorrosive coating system for steel structures of artificial constructions, ZINOTAN + POLYTON-UR + POLYTON-UR (UV), has proven to be effective. Concrete structures are protected with ALISTERUS 3105 and EVOPOL-12 primer enamels.

The following coating systems were chosen to protect steel structures of the bridges crossing the Oka and Sura rivers: ISOLEP-primer + ISOLEP-mio + POLITON-UR (UV) for outer surfaces, and ISOLEP-primer + ISOLEP-mio for inner surfaces. Concrete structures of the bridge were coated with ALISTERUS 3105 primer enamels.

In addition, GOODLINE EP-21 Н primer, GOODLINE PU-11, and GOODLINE PU-33 primers were used to arrange flooring of pedestrian crossings on some highway areas.
