VMP materials will provide reliable corrosion protection of Arctic LNG-2 in the extreme conditions of the Far North

On July 20, 2023, the first gas liquefaction train on gravity platforms was shipped from Murmansk to the Gydan Peninsula for Novatek's Arctic LNG-2 project. Russian President Vladimir Putin took part in the shipping ceremony. He signaled the start of operations to take the train out of the dock.

The weight of the first LNG line on the gravity platform exceeds 600,000 tons. It will be towed along the Northern Sea Route to the Utrenneye field on the Gydan Peninsula (Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug). After the equipment is installed and assembled, a full cycle of natural gas liquefaction will be enabled at the plant.

Novatek's unique Arctic LNG-2 project implies the construction of three LNG lines with a total capacity of 19.8 million tons per year and up to 1.6 million tons per year of stable gas condensate. In the future, gas will be transported along the Northern Sea Route by ARC7 ice-class tankers to transshipping complexes in the Murmansk Oblast and Kamchatka Peninsula, and then supplied to the international markets

VMP Research and Production Holding takes part in the Arctic LNG-2 project. The first process line of the plant is protected from corrosion by VMP coatings along with materials from well-known foreign manufacturers. VMP products meet the international standards and protect metal from corrosion in the extreme conditions of the Far North.

Currently, the Offshore Superfacility Construction Yard in Murmansk is applying epoxy and polyurethane VMP coating systems on new steel structures of the plant's second process line. They have a long service life and are resistant to corrosive environment, including the marine atmosphere.

Novatek and VMP Holding have been successfully cooperating since 2013. A number of large projects have been successfully implemented through these years. VMP paint materials protect steel structures at the Yaro-Yakhinskoye and Yurkharovskoye oil, gas, and condensate fields, and the Yuzhno-Tambeyskoye field (Yamal LNG project).
