VINICOR®-218 primer-enamel

Description

One-pack alkyd primer enamel. It contains fire retardants, prevents fire propagation, does not emit

executive amounts of smoke and toxic products during combustion.

Recommended use 

It is designed for painting evacuation routes, internal residential, service and special premises of

ships of unrestricted navigation, devices, mechanisms and equipment to which the increased safety

requirements are applied and also for protective-decorative painting of metal and wooden surfaces.

It is used as:

• an independent coating;

• a finishing layer in complex coating systems with VINICOR primer enamel, VINICOR-express-02 primer and other materials on epoxy ether, epoxy-urethane, polyurethane, epoxy, vinyl-epoxy, phenol-alkyd, acrylic, chlorinated rubber and alkyd bases.

Surface preparation

Primed surface

Before applying the subsequent layers, the coating of the underlying layer must be cleaned of dirt,

degreased, if necessary, free from dust and moisture.

If the maximum recoating interval of the primer is exceeded, additional measures are required to

ensure the adhesion between layers (surface sweeping).

Steel surface:

• degrease the metal surface to the first grade according to GOST 9.402;

• clean from scale, rust and traces of old paint by abrasive blasting to a grade no lower than Sa 2 according to ISO 8501-1 or with power-driven hand tools to the St 3 grade according to ISO 8501-1;

• remove dust.

Aluminum surface:

• degrease the metal surface to the first grade according to GOST 9.402;

• manual or mechanized cleaning using sandpaper or non-metallic abrasive for creating a rough surface;

• remove dust.

The coating must be dry, clean and free of oil and dust before applying the subsequent layers.

Application 

• mix homogeneously before use;
• dilute to working viscosity, if necessary.

It is recommended to apply the material in factory and field conditions at a temperature from plus 5
to plus 35 °С and relative air humidity not exceeding 85%. The temperature of the painted surface shall be
at least 3 °С above the dew point.
The primer enamel to be applied shall have a temperature of at least plus 15 °С.
It is recommended to apply the primer enamel in 2-3 layers by airless, pneumatic (air) spraying with
a brush/roller on a clean dry surface.

Storage and handling

The material is packed in metal buckets and cans.

Storage conditions in accordance with GOST 9980.5 (at ambient temperatures from minus 40 to plus 40 °С). The container with the material must not be stored near hear sources and exposed to precipitation and direct sunlight.

Guaranteed storage life of the primer enamel: 18 months from the date of manufacture.

Precautions

When working, one shall observe the corresponding industrial standards, requirements and safety measures indicated on the container label.

Use personal protective equipment (goggles, masks, respirators), avoid inhalation of thinners during evaporation and contact of the material or its components with skin, eye and respiratory ways mucous membrane; use the material indoors only with sufficient ventilation.

The materials are flammable!
